The Final Countdown!

Well, it's finally here. It's RELAY WEEK! The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Southern Dallas County is THIS Saturday, June 8! Relay For Life is the largest fund raiser for the American Cancer Society. But what most people don't realize is, the majority of the fund raising is done BEFORE the actual event. The night of the Relay is the celebration for all the hard work that everyone has put into the fund raising! Relay For Life is a fun, family friendly evening and I hope to see everyone there! The evening will start at 5 pm with Heather MacLennan singing the National Anthem while the Waukee American Legion Post 737 and VFW 11517 raise the American flag. Around 6 pm, the Eagle Scouts will start serving a meal of hot dogs or pork burgers, chips, drink and a cookie. The meal is available for a free will donation. Between 5 and 7 pm, Cinderella, Snow White, the Waukee Warrior and the ADM Tiger will be on hand to greet walkers. A bounce house will also be available for kids to enjoy. Games for all ages will be offered all through the evening for kids of all ages! Music through out the evening will be supplied by our DJ and Master of Ceremony, Jimmy Olsen. At 7 pm, the Survivors will be asked to come forward and sign the Survivor Bench. The bench will be just one of many items offered in a Silent Auction from 5-9 pm. The Survivor Lap and Celebration will take place after the bench signing. Nine o'clock will be the start of the Luminaria Ceremony. This is my favorite part of the whole evening! The lights of the stadium are turned off and only the glow of the luminaries lining the track can be seen. Luminaria's will be sold until 8:30 pm for a donation of $10. We will wrap up the evening around 10:45 with our Closing Ceremony. It will be a memorable evening and I hope you can share it with me.
