Sec. of State Matt Schultz Bows Out of U.S. Senate Bid, Rerunning for Current Position

Despite urging from his Republican Party members, there will be no Matt Schultz versus Bruce Braley matchup for the United States Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Tom Harkin.

Schultz, of Waukee, announced Wednesday on Twitter that he would be seeking another term as Iowa Secretary of State. Schultz wrote:

I am humbled by all of the encouragement to run for Senate, but I love serving Iowans as Secretary of State... I intend to run for SOS

Schultz has gained big support in the Iowa Republican Party after being a staunch proponent of proposals such as voter ID laws that have backing among several Republican Secretaries of State.

In the meantime, Schultz is the latest high profile candidate to bow out of the running against U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, who already has received the endorsement of Harkin for the 2014 election.
