AMES, Iowa — Fathers are different from mothers, but offer love, guidance and support in their own unique way, say family life specialists Donna Donald and Lori Hayungs. During June, they’ll talk about the role of fathers in the Science of Parenting blog from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach.
National studies show that an overwhelming majority of Americans agree that fathers play an important and irreplaceable role in the lives of children, Donald said. Seven out of 10 people in one study agreed that the physical absence of fathers from the home is the most significant social problem facing America.
“This month we’ll talk about how fathers can become more engaged in their children’s lives, how fathers interact with children in different ways than mothers and the negative results from absent fathers,” Hayungs said.
