Amy is a 36 year-old Iowa native who attended Indianola High School where she was heavily involved in the arts, particularly vocal music.

She continued her education at DePaul University, where she studied vocal performance, opera, and French literature. She completed graduate work in Ethnomusicology at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, where she developed a passion for research and writing. She conducted her Master’s field work in Haiti. Upon her return to the U.S., Amy began sharing the world music traditions that she researched through music education.

She went on to become an elementary school educator and private music instructor in Illinois. After having three kids and moving back to the Des Moines area, Amy became a stay-at-home mother and rediscovered her interest in writing through blogging, both personally and professionally. She currently resides in Urbandale with her husband, Matt, and three boys.
