Paul who launched onto the national political scene partially due to a filibuster against drones will be the headline speaker at the Republican Party's Lincoln Dinner in Cedar Rapids. Ticket and event info inside.
Ready for Iowa Caucus season to start up again? Marco Rubio has already graced the state with a visit, and today Iowa Republican Chair A.J. Spiker announced that Sen. Rand Paul will be the head speaker at the Iowa GOP's Lincoln Day Dinner on May 10. Ticket and event info at the link. Paul vaulted himself to the national stage as an heir apparent to retiring father Ron as he filibustered against the Obama administration's foreign policy, particularly its policy on the use of military drones on foreign soil. His broadside against the Obama administration, and possibly the least favorite member for conservatives, Attorney General Eric Holder, was a rallying cry for Republicans. Will this mean that Rand Paul will run for president? No, not …

Editor's Note: As the year winds down, Waukee Patch is looking back at some of the stories that made you talk, cry, laugh or just scratch your head. This story, by Anne Carothers-Kay, originally ran on May 11, 2012. ________ Rand Paul, Kentucky senator, Tea Party leader and possibly heir to his father Ron's libertarian movement, told about 300 conservative Iowa Christians that America needs to recover and find its moral bearings. "There is a sickness out there that needs more than political leadership. It needs spiritual leadership," he said. "In that cause, I'll do the best that I can." As the keynote speaker for the spring fundraiser for the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition, an influential group in Iowa Republican Party politics, Paul …

The Kentucky sentator spoke to a conservative Christian group in Iowa, where supporters of his father, Ron Paul, have taken over leadership in the state Republican Party. The younger Paul spoke in Waukee Friday about his journey as a Christian.
Rand Paul, Kentucky senator, Tea Party leader and possibly heir to his father Ron's libertarian movement, told about 300 conservative Iowa Christians that America needs to recover and find its moral bearings. "There is a sickness out there that needs more than political leadership. It needs spiritual leadership," he said. "In that cause, I'll do the best that I can." As the keynote speaker for the spring fundraiser for the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition, an influential group in Iowa Republican Party politics, Paul gave the least political speech of the night. He followed speeches by Iowa politicians Sen. Chuck Grassley, Rep. Tom Latham and Rep. Steve King. Ralph Reed, the founder and chairman of the national Faith and Freedom Coalition, …

Sen. Rand Paul, son of presidential hopeful Ron Paul, will be in Waukee Friday night for the Iowa Faith & Freedom Coalition Spring Kick-off at Point of Grace Church.
If the Ron Paul 2012 presidential race is dead -- and if it's not, it's in a deep, deep coma -- you wouldn't know it from what's going on in Iowa, where his unlikely bid for the White House began. While former Sen. Rick Santorum ultimately won the Iowa Caucus back in January, Iowa delegates to the GOP convention this summer are mostly Paul supporters, thanks partly to a system that allows delegates to do as they wish and thanks partly to the number of Paul supporters who have risen in Iowa's political leadership positions. And on Friday, Iowa Republicans will gather to hear Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, the son of the presidential candidate and a leader in the Tea Party movement. Rand Paul is making the rounds and spreading the word that he — …

The younger Paul, a U.S. senator from Kentucky, says his father is the only Republican who can reach across party lines.
With just hours to go before the influential Iowa caucuses, Republican presidential contender Ron Paul and his son, Rand, a U.S. senator from Kentucky, started a five-city blitz Monday morning in Des Moines and breezed through Cedar Falls this evening. Their aim was to shore up support and fend off suddenly competitive Rick Santorum and his quick ascension to the top tier of candidates. In Cedar Falls, about 200 people overfilled a room at the PIPAC Centre for Paul's quick speech before the candidate headed out the door to speed off to the day's final stop, in Mason City. Paul's fans are nothing if not fervent. One woman in the audience was overheard telling a friend, "It's just like seeing Jesus, only second in line. Jesus is first." The …
