It's the start of another week and we're almost halfway to the end of May. How will your Monday shape up?
Good morning and happy Monday, Waukee! Moms, did you have a Happy Mother's Day? You may remember what my wish was for Mother's Day this year. Well, I didn't get that. On Sunday morning, my oldest developed some kind of nasty stomach bug and was sick pretty much all day. Not exactly how I was hoping to unwind. Maybe next year. Still, the weekend wasn't a total loss. On Saturday, I took the kids to the Waukee Fire Association Pancake Breakfast and Food Drive where they were elated to to see all the inner workings of the Waukee Fire Station. I will admit, it was pretty cool getting to sit inside a fire truck. I'm kind of geeky like that. Off the subject but did you catch the results of our "Best Place to Pamper Mom" contest? Wellness by Wicks wins Patch's "Best Place to Pamper Mom" contest by just two votes. Jane & Friends Salon and Spa came in a close second.
No one could have predicted the outcome of Patch's latest Readers' Choice contest. Jane & Friends Salon and Spa was leading in Patch's "Best Place to Pamper Mom" contest until fans of Wellness by Wicks made their move and pulled out a win with just two votes. With 21 of 54 votes, Wellness by Wicks took the overall title of "Best Place to Pamper Mom" in Waukee. Wellness by Wicks, located at 460 Sixth St., just off the downtown Triangle, offers massage therapy benefiting people from all walks of life. In a September profile on Waukee Patch, Wellness by Wicks owner Trisha Wicks said there are a number of benefits to massage, including stress relief, improving mobility, increasing circulation, and simulating the immune system. In the spirit of Valentine’s Day and thinking of others, Waukee Patch's first "Gift-Giving Challenge" kicks off today. With a little help from readers, we selected three locally owned businesses that provide gift options for those who want to pamper the special someone in their life. Here's a glimpse at the businesses vying for top honors: Schade Creek Winery Schade Creek has for the past two years bottled a semi-sweet wine appropriately named Soulmates. It was created for the weddings held at the picturesque winery, but it's a hit on Valentine's Day, too.
