Waukee Theatre Arts Presents 'Guys and Dolls'; Tickets on Sale Now

The musical "Guys and Dolls" will be performed April 5 and 6 at Waukee High School by theater students.

From the Waukee Schools website Reserve your seats now for the Waukee Theatre Arts performances April 5 and 6 of "Guys and Dolls." The musical first premiered on Broadway in 1950 and ran for 1,200 performances, which lead to winning the Tony Award for Best Musical. With music and lyrics by Frank Loesser and book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows, this play is based on “The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown” and “Blood Pressure” – two short stories by Damon Runyon. Set in Runyon’s mythical New York City, this oddball romantic comedy – considered by many to be the perfect musical comedy – soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight “mission doll,” out to reform the evildoers …

"Much Ado About Nothing," director by Wayne Kischer, is a comedy by William Shakespeare about two pairs of lovers - Benedick and Beatrice and Claudio and Hero. Benedick and Beatrice are engaged in a “merry war." They are both very glib and proclaim their scorn for love, marriage, and, especially, for each other. In contrast, Claudio and Hero are sweet young people who are rendered practically speechless by their love for one another. Benedick and Beatrice are tricked into confessing their love for each other, and Claudio is tricked into rejecting Hero at the altar. However, Dogberry, a Constable who is a master of malapropisms, …

Waukee Theatre Arts Presents 'Dancing At Lughnasa' This Weekend

The Waukee Theatre Arts will present three performances of "Dancing at Lughnasa" at the Theatre Arts Center at Prairieview School beginning Friday, Jan. 6, at 7 p.m.

The Waukee Theatre Arts will present its winter play, "Dancing at Lughnasa," beginning Friday night at the Theatre Arts Center at Prairieview School.  "Dancing at Lughnasa" by playwright Brian Friel, takes place in a small village in Ireland in 1936. The story centers around the five unmarried Mundy sisters, who seem to live a simple, quiet existence, taking care of one another with little contact with the outside world. Music is one of the few brights spots in an otherwise dreary life, as they all dream of attending the festival of Lughnasa, a pagan celebration that involves drinking and dancing.  The ensemble cast of eight — five women, three men — has been rehearsing since October and producer/director Wayne Kischer said it was the …
