The Waukee City Council member, who is seeking re-election, says creating a Community and Economic Development Department with City Hall will help boost the city's growth.

With the success of Alice's Road becoming a reality while being elected to Council in 2010, Blanchard knew the City had to be more active and hands on with respect to bringing businesses into the City. After meeting with WEDCO (Waukee Economic Development Corporation) in May 2012, Blanchard asked for data in relation to accomplishments in regards to Economic Development. Alice's Road isn't the only major street in Waukee that will receive attention this year as city leaders set their top priorities.
From the City of Waukee website: Members of the Waukee City Council approved a slate of top priorities at the May 7 council meeting. These priorities are the actions that will be taken over the next 12 months to bring the community vision to fruition. Both the Community Vision and 2013-2014 City Council Priorities were developed during a strategic planning session held on April 22. The Mayor and City Council worked to develop a list of 15 top City Council Priorities by brainstorming outstanding projects and community needs and then voting to reach consensus on the top 15 initiatives. Members voted unanimously Monday night to appoint a former council member and mayor pro-tem to the seat vacated by Dan Dutcher.
Members voted unanimously Monday night to appoint Isaiah McGee to the Waukee City Council, according to the city of Waukee. McGee, a professional consultant, served on the city council from 2006 to 2010. He will fill the seat vacated by Dan Dutcher, who resigned earlier this month for personal reasons. "I am pleased with the process that we used to fill the vacant council seat and the selection," Mayor Bill Peard said in a press release issued by the city of Waukee. Mayor Bill Peard announced Cyndi Craigmile as the 2012 Waukee Citizen of the Year at Monday's City Council meeting. According to a news release from the city, Craigmile was chosen for the award by a committee consisting of Mayor Peard; David Wilkerson, superintendent for the Waukee Community School District; Vickie Dornfeld, Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce president; and 2011 Citizen of the Year Ann Strong. The City of Waukee acquired the final two parcels of land needed to expand the road to accommodate potential economic growth.
The Waukee City Council last night approved development agreements with two landowners needed to expand the road to make room for future economic growth. The council voted 4-0 at Monday night's regular council meeting, the Des Moines Register reports. The decision came a week after the council postponed a vote to use eminent domain to purchase the land. Approval of the agreement will allow the city to avoid complicated and time-consuming condemnation procedures, the article said. The city will acquire the rights to work on the properties at no cost, City Manager Tim Moerman told the newspaper. The city council has decided to appoint its next member following the resignation of Dan Dutcher.
The Waukee City Council plans to appoint its next member following the resignation of Dan Dutcher last week, according to a press release issued by the city.
