One Year Ago on Waukee Patch: Taylor Hale's Remarkable Recovery

It was just one year ago when a car accident critically injured a Waukee teenager. Today, that same teen is defying the odds.

Last year on Sept. 9, life changed in the blink of an eye for Waukee teenager Taylor Hale. Hale, then just 14-years-old, was critically injured after she fell off a friend's moving car at a post-football game gathering in Urbandale. Donations and support rolled in for Hale and her family as she would spend weeks at Blank Children's Hospital trying to recover from her injuries. After 42 days, Hale was released to go home where her recovery continued. Today, Hale is a student at Waukee High School and, according to a story on WHO-TV, hopes to try out for the basketball and cheerleading squads this fall. Year in Review: The Top 5 Stories from Waukee Patch

Waukee Patch will turn one on Thursday. Here are five of the most read stories from our first year in Waukee.

1. In August 2011, employees of the Happy Time Preschool & Daycare in the Point of Grace Church were handed their walking papers when the lead by ultra-conservative Pastor Jeff Mullen, decided to start its own child care entity. Employees were told they could reapply but in doing so would be required to sign a Christian Lifestyle Agreement that said employees should have "regular attendance at a Christian church, no sex outside of marriage, no homosexual conduct, no viewing of pornography, no drug or alcohol use, and no vulgar language." The directors of the former Happy Time Daycare overcame the obstacle and opened New Beginnings Daycare in September. A new, larger location is set to open in October. 2. In September, 14 year-old Taylor …

Taylor was released from the hospital on Oct. 20 to continue her recovery at home. 2) Happy Time Preschool & Daycare and Point of Grace Church On Aug. 19, staff members of the Happy Time Preschool & Daycare at the Point of Grace Church in Waukee were told they were being let go and that in order …

Chuck Hale Says Daughter's Recovery is 'A Miracle'

Chuck Hale, father of 14-year-old Taylor Hale, says his daughter's progress less than two weeks after a car accident in which she was severely injured is an act of God.

It’s hard to say what defines a "miracle." If you ask Chuck Hale, his daughter's recovery from a severe head injury is a good start. “Doctors don’t have an answer for it,” said Hale. “They can’t put words to it. Everything they thought about her, she blew out of the box. What we’ve witnessed is the healing hand of God.” Hale is talking about his daughter, Taylor, a spunky 14-year-old freshman at Prairieview School in Waukee. She suffered a severe head injury after falling off a moving car on Sept. 9. Until last weekend, she was in a coma at Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines. Her prognosis wasn’t good. “Years ago, I had come to accept that if God was going to take one of my children before He took me, I would be OK with that,” Hale …
