New Beginnings Sweeps Patch's 'Best Child Care Center' Contest

With more than half the votes, New Beginnings Child Care Center is named Patch's Best Child Care Center in Waukee.

With more than half of the vote, there was a very clear winner in Patch's "Best Child Care Center" contest. New Beginnings Childcare and Preschool ran away with the contest that pitted eight of Waukee's best child care centers against one another. The Waukee child care center garnered 79 of the 156 votes. Point of Grace Children's Academy came in second with 28 votes. New Beginnings, formerly Happy Time Daycare and Preschool, opened in September 2011 after a high profile parting with the Point of Grace Church in Waukee. At the time, Lori Moritz, New Beginnings executive director, said the parting was good fortune. "I’ve said it before, but things really do happen for a reason,” said Moritz, former director of the Happy Time Daycare and …

Last Day to Vote in Patch's 'Best Child Care Center' Contest

In Patch's Readers' Choice, we're looking for Waukee's "Best Child Care Center" as voted by Waukee Patch readers. Voting ends Sunday night at 9 p.m.

What's the best child care center in Waukee? That’s the question we're asking readers in Patch's next Readers' Choice/Best of contest. It's one of those questions - if you're a parent - that you agonize and obsess over when you find yourself searching for the right place to take your kids. Once you find it, settle in and it becomes part of your routine, it's hard to let go. The caregivers there become more like family than paid caregivers and the children in your child's class, well, they are likely to be some of the best friends your child will ever make. Now's the time to show them how much you appreciate all they do for you, your children and your sanity. Over the next couple weeks, we're asking you to cast a vote for your favorite …

First Steps is amazing. In less than a year there, my son has really improved his recognition of letters, numbers, shapes, colors, etc. They are even teaching him sign language and Spanish! Couldn't be happier.   more ›

Smile! Waukee Family Dentistry Wins Patch's 'Best Dentist' Contest

They took the lead early in the contest and in the end, Waukee Family Dentistry took top honors in Patch's "Best Dentist" contest.

It was a fight to the teeth (pun totally intended) but one victor came out on top in Patch's Readers' Choice contest. With 46 of a total 114 votes, Waukee Family Dentistry was named the "Best Dentist" in Waukee. Walnut Hills Pediatric Dentistry came in a close second with 32 votes. Waukee Family Dentistry, located at 85 N.E. Warrior Lane, is owned and operated by two sisters - dentists Lisa and Tina Kurtz. In an interview given to Patch in December, the pair said they take the whole person - not just their smile - into account when treating patients. “We offer complete dentistry for every member of the family. We work with children and adults, on implants, dental restoration and much more,” said Lisa Kurtz. “We feel we are kind of leaving …

Voting Ends Today in Patch's 'Best Dentist' Contest

In Patch's next Readers' Choice, we're looking for Waukee's "Best Dentist" as voted by Waukee Patch readers. Voting ends today.

Who's the best dentist in Waukee? That’s the question we're asking readers in Patch's next Readers' Choice/Best of contest. You know who your favorite is. She's the one who keeps your pearly whites pearly; the guy who made extracting your wisdom teeth seem like a cakewalk; and the person you trust to help teach your kids about the good dental habits that will stick with them for a lifetime. Now's the time to thank them with your vote. Over the next two weeks, we're asking you to choose your favorite. Because this poll is not scientific, it is not the sole consideration in choosing a winner. The winner will be determined by the Patch editor, based on poll results and reviews on our Patch Directory. Please vote only once per survey, per …

I actually have worked for Lisa and Tina Kurtz at Waukee Family Dentistry so I can tell you how good they really are. They are genuinely concerned about the health of their patients. They are honest and fair (which can be hard to find in this field). They are Waukee girls born and raised here. Many of their patients are old friends, and some have become like family. They are wonderful people who …   more ›

The Daily Dose: One Week of School, a Bowling Deal and Waukee's 'Best Dentist'

A little bit of randomness coming your way in Tuesday's Daily Dose.

Hard to believe but students in Waukee schools only have seven days of school left of the 2011-12 school year. I'm probably in denial seeing as how it can't be possible that my baby has already made it through kindergarten. Where did the time go? Looking for ways to keep the kids in check once summer break starts? You should check out the great Living Social deal for Waukee's own Warrior Lanes. For $33 you get two hours of bowling for up to four people, shoe rental, pizza and soda. What a steal! The deal ends today so get it while you still can. Totally off the subject, but have you have the chance to vote in our latest Readers' Choice contest? We're looking for Waukee's best dentist this time around. We've had a great response so far. …

The Daily Dose: Mother's Day Disaster, Readers' Choice and Some Other Fun Stuff

It's the start of another week and we're almost halfway to the end of May. How will your Monday shape up?

Good morning and happy Monday, Waukee! Moms, did you have a Happy Mother's Day? You may remember what my wish was for Mother's Day this year. Well, I didn't get that. On Sunday morning, my oldest developed some kind of nasty stomach bug and was sick pretty much all day. Not exactly how I was hoping to unwind. Maybe next year. Still, the weekend wasn't a total loss. On Saturday, I took the kids to the Waukee Fire Association Pancake Breakfast and Food Drive where they were elated to to see all the inner workings of the Waukee Fire Station. I will admit, it was pretty cool getting to sit inside a fire truck. I'm kind of geeky like that. Off the subject but did you catch the results of our "Best Place to Pamper Mom" contest? Wellness by Wicks…
