Weekend Happenings in Waukee: Football, Volleyball, Legos and a Bike Ride

Looking for a little weekend fun in Waukee? Here's what's happening Sept. 14, 15 and 16 right here at home.

Friday Waukee vs. Mason City The Waukee Warriors will face the Johnston Dragons at Johnston High School Stadium tonight at 7:30 p.m.  The Warriors are 2-1 after a win over Mason City last week here at home. Tonight is Johnston's Homecoming game. Saturday Waukee's 9th Grade Volleyball Inviational Waukee's 9th grade volleyball team will host an invitational meet Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at Prairieview School in Waukee. Teams from Ankeny, Ballard, Dowling Catholic, Grandview Park Baptist, PCM, Des Moines Roosevelt, Saydel Community Schools, and West Des Moines Valley will all compete. Waukee Joins Battery Recycling Initiative

Battery recycling is now available to residents in Waukee thanks to a partnership with the Metro Waste Authority and Call2Recycle.

The city of Waukee has partnered with the Metro Waste Authority and Call2Recycle to make recycling batteries and cell phones more convenient. The program offers recycling of household batteries and cell phones at no cost to residents. "Waukee is joining thousands of communities across the country in protecting the environment by providing residents with an environmentally responsible way to safely dispose of used batteries," said Carl Smith, president and CEO of RBRC, which operates Call2Recycle. "Participating in a battery recycling program is one important way communities can make themselves healthier, safer and more sustainable." 1) Yard Waste Collection Begins Today Yard waste collection is today in Waukee. Pick up will be every Monday through the last week of November. Residents are reminded that yard waste material is to be placed in yard waste bags or clearly marked containers. Do not use garbage or recycling bins. Sticks/branches are to be bundled and are not to exceed 4 feet in length.
