PHOTOS: Waukee Safety City

Students entering kindergarten in the fall got a crash course in safety this week through the Waukee Police Department's Safety City program held at Waukee Middle School.

Students entering kindergarten in the fall got a primer on everything they need to know to start the 2012-13 school year at Safety City this week.  Safety City, sponsored by the Waukee Police Department, teaches kindergartners about safety using songs and activities that make sense to them. Some of the subjects covered at this week's session include: bullying, pedestrian rules, street crossing, stop lights, Waukee Safe Houses, poisons and drug abuse, bus rules, 911, respect for authority, seat belts and bicycle safety. A miniature "city" is used to teach students correct street crossing techniques using both tricycles (as vehicles) and by walking. Students also tour the Waukee Police and Fire Departments and participate in a graduation …

Waukee's 2012-13 Kindergarten Registration Starts Tonight

Kindergarten registration, formerly known as Kindergarten Round-Up, begins tonight at all of Waukee's six elementary schools at 6:30 p.m.

For parents registering children entering kindergarten during the 2012-13 school year, tonight is your night.  Kindergarten registration(formerly known as Kindergarten Round-Up) will be held at all six Waukee elementary schools this evening.  Brookview, Eason, Maple Grove, Shuler, Walnut Hills and Waukee Elementary Schools will all open their doors tonight at 6:30 p.m. The event allows parents to visit a typical classroom, talk to administrators, and gain a better understanding of the types of programming provided for kindergarten students in the district.  Online enrollment for the 2012-13 school year began on March 6. The online process allowed parents to complete the required registration forms without having to fill out the paper …

Registration Begins for Waukee's 2012 Safety City

Registration has begun for the 2012 Safety City. Safety City teaches pre-kindergarteners the basics of safety in the home, on the street and in school.

The Waukee Police Department has announced dates for its 2012 Safety City. Safety City will be held at South Middle School on June 11-15, June 18-20 and June 25-29. There will be two available time slots during each session - 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m. Safety City is for students entering kindergarten during the 2012-13 school year. It teaches children basic safety issues they will encounter at home, in public and in school. During the five-day session, students will learn about bullying, pedestrian rules, crossing the street, bus rules, respecting authority, seatbelt usage, bicycle safety, 911, poisons and drug abuse and the police and fire departments, among others.
