Waukee E-Commerce Marketer Goodsmiths Wins Office Makeover Contest

The online craft marketplace founded by two Waukee men won a $20,000 office makeover for its space in Valley Junction. Turnstone, the company holding the contest, said it chose Goodsmiths for its maker culture and need for a collaborative workspace.

Goodsmiths, an online craft marketplace founded by two Waukee entrepreneurs, is getting a $20,000 makeover. The company learned Wednesday that it had won the Culture@Work contest held by Turnstone, beating out between 20 and 30 startups in the area, the Des Moines Register reports.  Turnstone chose the Valley Junction-based Goodsmiths over the other finalists, Dwolla and BitMethod, because of its maker culture and the need for a collaborative space. “The judges were looking for companies that really embodied the seven observations of small businesses that we’ve identified – companies with a passion for what they do, and where a sense of personality and community are clearly important to their culture,” marketing officer Jon Eggleton told …

Local Moms Find Global Market for Handmade Projects

Three Waukee crafters set up shop in online marketplace, Etsy

Amid numerous online markets – from Amazon to eBay – only one insists that sellers handcraft the goods they post for sale. Etsy.com, which bills itself as “the world’s handmade marketplace,” has more than 800,000 sellers – three of whom live in Waukee. With the help of Etsy, Waukee moms Amy Smith, Shelby Anderson and Christia Palizzi each market their crafts to prospective buyers around the globe, directly from their Waukee homes. For Smith, Etsy is a main marketing channel, responsible for most of her craft sales. For Anderson and Palizzi, the online store is more of a “cherry on top,” supplementing their more traditional marketing efforts.
