Waukee Man Banned from Drake Relays for Facebook Comment

Police didn't think a man's joke Facebook post about leaving a backpack near the starting line of the Drake Relays was very funny.

A Waukee man who joked about leaving a backpack near the starting line of the Drake Relays on Facebook last April, was visited by police, according to the Des Moines Register. Des Moines Police Chief Judy Bradshaw said officers use social media sites to glean information and the unidentified Waukee man was visted by police at both his home and office. He wasn't charged with anything but he was banned from the Drake Relays, the article said.

Making History: Waukee Doubles Up in Shuttle Hurdle Wins at Drake Relays

Both the Waukee High School girls' and boys' shuttle hurdle relays won last week at the Drake Relays.

From the Waukee Schools website: Congratulations to the Waukee girls' and boys' shuttle hurdle relay teams for both winning Drake Relays championships on April 27. The girls' team of Emma Drees, Mallory Smith, Emily Kamm, and Maddi Rouw won their second consecutive Drake title and broke their own Drake Relays record. The two time defending state champions also broke their own all time Iowa record with a time of 1:02.84. The boys' team of Noah Larrison, Josh Brdicko, Riley Gray, and Jared Brdicko won their first Drake title, edging Cedar Rapids Kennedy by .01 seconds.  Their time of 57.35 was the second fastest in school history. Waukee Boys' and Girls' Track Teams Make Strong Showing at the 2012 Drake Relays

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Iowa's best high school runners participated in the Drake Relays at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.

Another year of the Drake Relays have ended, leaving behind a trail of memories and even a record for several members of the Waukee High School track team. The Waukee girls’ shuttle hurdle relay team made up of Emma Drees, Alyssa Cunningham, Mallory Smith and Maddie Rouw, ran the relay in 1:03.29 to set a new Drake Relays record. The previous record was set in 2011 by a team from Urbandale High School. In an interview with the Des Moines Register, Rouw said, “I can’t see the clock, but by the crowd cheering, I could tell we were really coming close to the record."
