The Warriors trailed Pleasant Valley by 2 points after the first day of competition, but made up the difference and set some state records along the way.
Both the Waukee boys' and girls' track teams set records at the Iowa state track meet, and the girls brought home the Class 4A title, reports WHO-TV. In the shuttle hurdle relay, the Warrior girls smashed the all-time mark, which they held, 1 minute 1.87 seconds, the TV station said. Then the Warrior boys ran their way into the record books, holding off Cedar Rapids Kennedy in 56.47 seconds, a new state record. Both Waukee winning teams celebrated together, with both dominating the shuttle hurdle relay. The 4A girls' team title came down to the final race – 4 by 400 relay, WHO said. Waukee finished in fourth to defend their 4A crown with a 2 point win over Pleasant Valley. West Des Moines' Dowling Catholic took third place.

Both the Waukee High School girls' and boys' shuttle hurdle relays won last week at the Drake Relays.
From the Waukee Schools website: Congratulations to the Waukee girls' and boys' shuttle hurdle relay teams for both winning Drake Relays championships on April 27. The girls' team of Emma Drees, Mallory Smith, Emily Kamm, and Maddi Rouw won their second consecutive Drake title and broke their own Drake Relays record. The two time defending state champions also broke their own all time Iowa record with a time of 1:02.84. The boys' team of Noah Larrison, Josh Brdicko, Riley Gray, and Jared Brdicko won their first Drake title, edging Cedar Rapids Kennedy by .01 seconds. The Central Iowa Conference track meet scheduled for today has been moved to Monday due to the expected winter weather conditions.
The Central Iowa Conference has called off a multi-school track meet that was supposed to be held at Waukee High School at 3:30 today due to expected wintry weather conditions. The forecast calls for a high of 35 degrees today and 3 to 5 inches of snow. The meet featured boys and girls varsity squads from 11 conference schools from across the Des Moines metro and beyond. The schools are Ames, Ankeny, Dowling Catholic, Fort Dodge, Johnston, Marshalltown, Mason City, Southeast Polk, Urbandale and West Des Moines Valley. The meet will be moved to Monday at 3:30 p.m. The Des Moines Register also reports another scheduling change. CIML’s Metro Conference from Thursday to Monday. The former Waukee high school star Jake Knott will get a chance to play in the NFL.

The burly linebacker was picked up after the draft as a free agent by the Philadelphia Eagles and will get a chance to earn a spot with the team. The Bleeding Green Nation blog calls Knott a "diamond in the rough." While a lot is being made about Eagles latest draft picks, the team also was able to add some pretty good talent with quite a few undrafted free agents. The 2012 graduate plays softball for Luther College in Decorah.
From a Luther College news release: Miranda McCay, a 2012 graduate of Waukee Community High School, hit the first two home runs of her Luther career on back-to-back days on April 7-8. McCay, a freshman, had a huge game in Luther’s 8-1 victory over Coe College in game two of the Iowa Conference doubleheader in Cedar Rapids on April 7. In this game, McCay went 3-for-4 and drove in six runs. McCay drove in a run with a double in the second, and one in the seventh with a single. Sandwiched in the middle was her first career home run that was a grand slam to left field. In Luther’s doubleheader the next day (April 8) at home against Wartburg College, McCay ended the second game with a three-run home run to left field, securing a 10-0 victory in…
Bad weather canceled the Waukee High School senior night track meet, so we're doing a virtual recognition.
The season is about over for girls' track, and Mother Nature hasn't been kind. The Senior Night Track Meet was canceled. So, Waukee High School coaches asked that Patch share this recognition of the senior girls. Congratulations to all.
