The Waukee Firefighter Association breakfast will be held this morning at the Waukee Fire Department.
Rise and shine early this Saturday, Waukee, and don't miss the Waukee Fire Association's pancake and bacon breakfast. The event will be held from 7-11 a.m. Saturday at the Waukee Fire Department. The breakfast is held to show the community everything the fire department has to offer. In addition to noshing on pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee, there will be some fun activities for kids of all ages. An antique fire truck will be on hand for ride alongs and a host of other activities like station tours and demonstrations will shed a little light on what goes on at the station. All funds raised go towards purchasing equipment and upgrading current equipment and facilities. A food drive for the Waukee Food Pantry will be held in …

“Take-back” events respond to a spate of crime involving firearms.
An increase in drive-by shootings, armed robberies and other gun violence in Des Moines and the metro area has prompted several suburban police departments to take part in “gun take-back” events during National Police Week. Update Authorities have identified Barton Tingley, 49, of Des Moines, as the man found in rural Polk County on Thursday, multiple news outlets report. Friends found him in a farm field at about 1:30 p.m. Foul play is not suspected, but the cause of the death is still unknown. Previous Authorities are investigating a dead body found in rural Polk County, KCCI reports. The TV station cites a spokeswoman for the Polk County Sheriff's Department saying the department is in the middle of its investigation of the man's body, which was found by a friend. Every morning drivers block crosswalks and run stop signs in front of me when I'm jogging. If Shawn Brown had to back up to allow a jogger to cross the street, it was because her car was past the stop sign and blocking the crosswalk.
