PHOTO GALLERY: Waukee Food Pantry Hands Out Thanksgiving Dinner

The Waukee Area Christian Food Pantry, in the basement of Westview Church, doled out its annual Thanksgiving boxes to area families Monday. It was the fifth year the food pantry has distributed the holiday meals.

By the time the doors of the opened at 4 p.m. Monday, some recipients had been lined up outside for almost an hour.

People were anxiously waiting for the Waukee Food Pantry's annual Thanksgiving dinner distribution. Recipients from the Waukee area had their choice of turkey or ham with all the trimmings this holiday season.

This is the fifth year the Waukee Food Pantry has provided Thanksgiving meals to area families. Last year more than 104 families were given food for the holiday.

In addition to the special pick-up, families were also able to shop the food pantry shelves for additional supplies.

The Waukee Area Christian Food Pantry is located in the basement of the and is open twice a week, Monday 4-6 p.m. and Thursday 9-11 a.m. Its mission is to provide non-perishable food and personal items to residents living in the or for those with approval from an area church.
