Waukee Girls Narrowly Win Class 4A Track Title

The Warriors trailed Pleasant Valley by 2 points after the first day of competition, but made up the difference and set some state records along the way.

Both the Waukee boys' and girls' track teams set records at the Iowa state track meet, and the girls brought home the Class 4A title, reports WHO-TV.

In the shuttle hurdle relay, the Warrior girls smashed the all-time mark, which they held, 1 minute 1.87 seconds, the TV station said.

Then the Warrior boys ran their way into the record books, holding off Cedar Rapids Kennedy in 56.47 seconds, a new state record.

Both Waukee winning teams celebrated together, with both dominating the shuttle hurdle relay. The 4A girls' team title came down to the final race – 4 by 400 relay, WHO said.

Waukee finished in fourth to defend their 4A crown with a 2 point win over Pleasant Valley. West Des Moines' Dowling Catholic took third place.
