Warriors Face Tough Competition As They Look for Third State Golf Title

Despite losses to graduation, the Warriors return another strong varsity boys' golf team.

The Waukee boys' golf team faces several tough competitors in Class 4-A as it aims for another state golf championship, including Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Ottumwa, Dowling Catholic and West Des Moines Valley.

Waukee has won two of the last three state tiles.

The Des Moines Register reports the Warriors return two of their top finishers from last year’s state meet: Aaron DeNuci, who finished sixth, and Connor Littlefield, who placed 29th. Littlefield placed fourth in the 2011 state meet as a freshman.

Coach John Kotz told the newspaper some of his golfers have played in junior competitions this summer and he has been impressed with the scores the players have recorded.

“We lose three seniors, but I feel good about our younger players stepping in,” Kotz told the Register. “Parker Howe and Connor Littlefield have really been working hard. They did some national tournaments through February and they’re ready to take their game to the next level.”
