Did Waukee Girls Advance to Class 3A State Soccer Championship?

For the second year in a row, the Waukee Warriors had to get past the Ankeny Hawks for a spot in the championship game.

In a battle between metro CIML rivals, Waukee lost to Ankeny 2 to 1 Friday night, missing out on a berth in the Class 3A state soccer championship.

The Warriors took on the Hawks in the semifinal round of the Iowa High School girls' soccer tournament. The game was played at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines.

This is the second straight year the two teams have competed in the semifinals, according to the Des Moines Register. And the second time in as many years that Ankeny has walked away with the win.

Ankeny showed no mercy during the quarterfinals Thursday when it took down Iowa City High in a 4-0 victory, the Register reported. The Warriors also advanced after a 3-0 shutout victory against Linn-Mar, the article said.
