Waukee Schools Comment on Connecticut School Shooting

The district messaged parents today to reassure them that Waukee schools have safety and crisis protocols in place.

As news spread across the country that a gunman had opened fire in a Newtown, CT, elementary school, killing 26 people, the Waukee school district reached out to reassure parents.

The following message was sent to Waukee Community School District families and posted on social media accounts:

We are saddened to learn about the devastating reports coming from Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut. As we hear such news we are reminded how important it is for our district and all of our schools to provide the safest possible learning environments for our students and staff.

Among the victims in Connecticut are 18 children, shot at an elementary school after a gunman went on a shooting rampage.

The shooting happened at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT, a town of about 28,000 people an hour outside of Stamford.
