Growth and Possible Second High School Drive 7-Way Waukee School Board Race
Among the tasks the new school board will tackle also include the creation of Iowa's first CAPS – Center for Advanced Studies – program with local business partners.
Voters will choose from seven candidates for four open seats on the Waukee School Board Tuesday. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Waukee School Administration Building, 560 S.E. University Ave.
Candidates are Sarah Bowman, 33, a public relations and political consultant; David Cunningham, 55, an entrepreneur; Dale Finnegan, 51, an assistant preschool teacher; Wendy Liskey, 42, a church missions assistant; Pat Nehls, 41, an information technology professional and manager; Mary Scheve, 52, a magazine publishing executive; and Nancy Umsted, 48, a business manager.
Scheve is the only incumbent in the group.

Waukee, Iowa’s fastest-growing school district, experienced a 29 percent enrollment increase over the past five years, the Des Moines Register reports. Current year enrollment figures are not yet available, but 611 more students were enrolled in the 2012-13 school year than during the previous year.
In addition to managing the challenges of growth and discussions about the possibility of a second high school, board members will also plow new ground with Iowa’s first CAPS – Center for Advanced Professional Studies – program fro the 2014-15 school year.
