Republican Rob Taylor has won a seat in the Iowa House District 44 over West Des Moines firefighter, Eric Brenneman.

In unofficial results from the Dallas County Auditor, Taylor garnered 10,065 votes over Brenneman's 7,204.

Taylor, 41, is a sales director and consultant for a central Iowa petroleum distributor. He grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1989. He attended Des Moines Area Community College where he graduated with an Associate in Arts, Upper Iowa University with a Bachelors in Science, and William Penn University with a Masters in Business Leadership.

He and his wife, Dr. Christina Taylor, have four children and make their home in West Des Moines.

Taylor said he was more relieved than nervous waiting for results Tuesday night.

"Going into today, I knew I had done everything I could possibly do to ensure a win," he said, "A wise man once told me, 'The harder you work, the luckier you get.' I feel very lucky today."

Among the issues Taylor hopes to tackle in his new position: commercial tax relief and reform, education reform, collective bargaining and the road use tax.

"I'm ready to get started tomorrow," Taylor said.
