Registration Begins for Waukee's 2012 Safety City

Registration has begun for the 2012 Safety City. Safety City teaches pre-kindergarteners the basics of safety in the home, on the street and in school.

The Waukee Police Department has announced dates for its 2012 Safety City.

Safety City will be held at South Middle School on June 11-15, June 18-20 and June 25-29. There will be two available time slots during each session - 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m.

Safety City is for students entering kindergarten during the 2012-13 school year. It teaches children basic safety issues they will encounter at home, in public and in school.

During the five-day session, students will learn about bullying, pedestrian rules, crossing the street, bus rules, respecting authority, seatbelt usage, bicycle safety, 911, poisons and drug abuse and the police and fire departments, among others.

Each student will receive a bicycle helmet and a t-shirt for their participation and a graduation ceremony is held the last day of class for parents to attend.

The last day to sign up for 2012 Safety City is May 11. To register, download the attached registration form. You can also find it on the city's website. The cost to attend Safety City is $50.
