Family Fun Fair
Help Fill the Food Pantry!
WaukeeChristian Church Hosts 2nd Annual Family Fun Festival
To
raise awareness about the issue of hunger in our community and to help stock the
Food Pantry shelves, Waukee Christian Church is hosting the 2nd
Annual Family Fun Fair. The event is free and open to the public. The only
admission “fee” is an item of non-perishable food (cash donations are also
accepted). Last year, the event raised $410 (which translates to $3,150 because
the Food Pantry can buy 7 times the amount of food for each $1 donated) and 310
pound of food. Organizers hope to surpass that amount this year.
In
2005, Waukee Christian Church was one of several local churches that decided to
work to respond to this need. The result was the Waukee Area Food Pantry. The
Food Pantry serves residents living in the Waukee School District and those
referred by local churches. And there is always a need.
The
first 200 people who make a donation will receive a free meal, and everyone can
enter the prize drawing. Prizes include a $50 gift card from HyVee and 2 iPod
Shuffles. Enjoy games, crafts, and activities: take a turn in the inflatables,
watch a puppet show, try your aim at the water game, explore a police car or
fire truck, and roast marshmallows.

Local
organizations are also getting in on the fun by submitting homemade pies for the
Blue Ribbon Bake Off. Celebrity Judges will select the winner. Judging will be
done by VIP representatives of local Waukee organizations. Come support your
favorite bakers and enjoy a piece of pie as we fight hunger.
There
is something for everyone. But even more important, it’s a chance to share
something with everyone!

The
Family Fun Fair will be held on August 3rd from 4:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Waukee
Christian Church, one mile west of Waukee on Hickman Road and T Avenue. The
rain date is August 4th.
