What Could $100,000 Buy for Waukee Schools?

In Patch's "Deck the House" contest, there's $100,000 up for grabs for the Waukee School District. What does $100,000 buy these days? We found out.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words but a photo of your home decked out for the holidays could be worth so much more for the Waukee School District.

Patch.com is conducting a nationwide contest to find the best dressed home in its Patch communities, and the winner’s school district will receive $100,000, no strings attached.

Here’s how the contest works. Until Dec. 26, you can nominate your home by uploading a photo to the contest entry form on the site. During that same time period you and your neighbors will also be able to vote for your favorite festive home. The winning entry will be forwarded to a national Patch judge that will select 24 finalists. Each finalist will receive $500 that they can apply to their December electric bill.

From Dec. 30 through Jan. 8 you will be able to vote for the Best Decked House in all of Patch. The grand prize winner’s school district will receive a $100,000 check from Patch.

So what could $100,000 net for Waukee Schools? How about 122,000 rolls of toilet paper or 40,000 school lunches (including milk)? One hundred grand could pay for 82,000 #2 pencils, 40,000 packs of 24 count Crayola crayons, or 20,000 reams of paper. Heck, it could buy 500 iPods or 200 iPads!
