A new reading recommendation from Devon.

Flowers and Lives Intertwined

In Victorian times, flowers were used to convey messages such as red roses for passionate love, asters for patience, snapdragons for presumption, basil for hate, and white tulips for forgiveness.  Vanessa Diffenbaugh’s lush first novel, “The Language of Flowers”, grows flowers, their messages, and the characters together into a luxuriant, gorgeous bouquet.

Victoria Jones, emancipated at eighteen from the foster-care system, has nowhere to go.  When a local florist discovers Victoria’s gift for helping people with relationships through her flower arrangements, a new world opens to her.  Soon she is exploring emotions she had thought were long-buried.  A handsome and enigmatic vendor at the flower market leads her to question her perceptions and her past, and initiates her examination of a painful secret.  Armed only with the language of flowers, Victoria must decide if she can trust enough and take a risk in order to be happy.
