Playhouse Sets Auditions for ‘Peter Pan,’ ‘Les Misérables’
If you've got an acting bug, the Des Moines Playhouse has scheduled auditions for next month.

Auditions for the Family Holiday Classic, "Peter Pan," will be held at the Des Moines Community Playhouse at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20. Auditions for "Les Misérables," the world's most popular musical, will be held Oct. 26-29 at the Des Moines Community Playhouse.
Actors may audition for both musicals as rehearsals and performances will not conflict with each other. Those auditioning for these musicals should bring a prepared solo of no more than 32 bars in length; an accompanist is provided. All auditions are open to the public; no one is pre-cast. "Peter Pan" contains feature roles for 8-10 men and 5-8 women, ages 16 and up, and 9 boys and 3-6 girls, ages 8-16. Performances are Dec. 6-29, with school matinees Dec. 16-17. "Peter Pan" is directed by Kathy Pingel, with music direction by Steve Woodin and choreography by Alison Shafer.
"Les Misérables" contains feature roles for 5 men and 4 women, ages 16 and up; and 1 boy and 2 girls, ages 8-14; plus an ensemble of adults. Performances are Mar. 21-Apr. 13, 2014, with school matinees Mar. 31-Apr. 1, 2014. "Les Misérables" is directed by John Viars with music direction by Brenton Brown and choreography by Alison Shafer.

Auditions for "Les Misérables" will be by appointment only.
Youth auditions will be held noon- 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26. Adults will audition 6-10 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 17; 6:30-10 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28; and 6:30-10 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29.
Those who want to audition need to send a request for an audition appointment, including first and second preference of audition day and time, to rspahr@dmplayhouse.com. Audition appointments will be confirmed.
The Playhouse is Iowa's oldest and largest producing theatre. Located at the 42nd Street exit of I-235, the theatre has presented a full season of shows since 1919 and also offers a wide variety of educational experiences including classes for ages 4 to adult, theatre trips to New York, and volunteer opportunities onstage and backstage.
