Jazz Series at Caspe Terrace Features Rare Glimpse at Jazz Greats

Driving by the in Waukee, you'd probably never know that it's played host to some of the greatest living jazz musicians of our time.

Abe Goldstien, a die hard jazz fan himself and member of the Caspe Terrace's Jewish community, thought it only right that he share his "habit" with others.

For that reason, the Jazz at Caspe Terrace music series began. For more than 10 years, they've invited jazz musicians from across the country and around the world to play at their cozy little music venue on the sprawling grounds of the Caspe Terrace in Waukee.

"The whole reason we do it is to support my habit," Goldstien joked. "Most people know that. But seriously, we don’t make any money doing this. We lose money but it's less money than it would cost to go see these incredible artists somewhere else."

The fall series begins Thursday with jazz greats Sonny Simmons and Michael Marcus - The Cosmosamatics - playing the music of Charlie Parker. Goldstien says no matter your musical preference, you should give jazz a try.

"Just take a chance on jazz," he said. "It’s something to experience. These guys are all at the top of their game. You know they’re playing at the moment."

The Jazz at Caspe Terrace series includes the following musicians:

Sept. 13 - Sonny Simmons & Michael Marcus

These two saxophonists are joined by 
drummer Jay Rosen for a cutting-edge 
evening of jazz.

Oct. 18 - Sheila Jordan and Cameron Brown

Jazz vocalist, Sheila Jordan joined by her musical partner bassist Cameron Brown will run the gamut from bebop to jazz standards.

Dec. 13 - Eric Vloeimans and Florian Weber

Dutch trumpeter, Eric Vloeimans returns and is bringing jazz pianist Florian Weber.
