Waukee Earl May Nursery to Donate Portion of Sales, Collect Food for Local Food Pantry

Canned and boxed foods can be dropped off at the Waukee Earl May Nursery location during store hours March 10-17. The store will also donate part of its March 16 sales to the food pantry run by Waukee Area Christian Services.

Earl May Nursery & Garden Center has joined forces with the Waukee food pantry for the Earl May Cares Community Event, according to a news release.

The Garden Center, located at 1530 S.E. Blackthorne Drive, will collect canned and boxed goods to be delivered to the Waukee food pantry on March 18. You may drop off your donation during normal store hours, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 10-17.

In addition to the food drive, Earl May Nursery & Garden Center will be donating 20 percent of its sales on Saturday, March 16, to the Waukee food pantr

During this all-day event, they will be focusing on feeding your family and the community by growing your own vegetables, herbs and fruits, no matter the space. There will be a host of lawn and garden seminars as well as garden activities for the kids on Saturday.

Details About the Food Pantry

According to its website, the pantry’s mission is to provide non-perishable food and personal items to meet short term needs to those living in the Waukee School District or those with approval from any supporting church. Patrons will be asked to fill out a short form and go through a quick interview process which includes verification of residence (photo ID and copy of utility bill).

Food and personal items will be given based on availability and family size. Services are confidential and private. 

  • No appointment is necessary. Stop by during our office hours: 
    (Monday 4-6 pm & Thursday 9-11 am)
  • Bring proof of residence (like a utility bill or apartment lease) and a photo ID.

The food pantry is housed in the lower level of Westview Church, 1155 S.E. Boone Drive in Waukee.
