Waukee Author to Speak at Waukee Public Library Tonight

D. Mark Davis will be on hand at the Waukee Public Library tonight to read from his latest book, "Left Behind and Loving It: A Cheeky Look at the End Times," at 6:30 p.m.

D. Mark Davis admits he has a different way of looking at the Scriptures.

The Waukee resident and pastor at Heartland Presbyterian Church in Clive, has taken his unique biblical views and written a book about them. Left Behind and Loving It; A Cheeky Look at the End Times, Davis' second book, is a tongue-in-cheek analysis of popular writings about the end times.

Davis will be at the to read from and discuss Left Behind and Loving It tonight at 6:30 p.m.

In Left Behind and Loving It, Davis focuses on the some of the more controversial Scriptures that deal with the Rapture or the end of days, dissecting them using the philosophy that "God's steadfast love endures forever," rather than suggesting that only a chosen few would remain at the world's end.

"I grew up in a tradition that believes in the Rapture and the second coming and all those beliefs," said Davis. "I've since moved very far away from that myself and continued to marvel at that approach and how the end of times continues to be addressed."

Davis said the idea for the book came from a series of blog posts he wrote deconstructing the issue.

"I was blogging different thoughts every day and some of them were getting a little long," he said. "My readers were starting to complain that they were scrolling too much so I decided to take all these ideas and put them in some schematic order."

Davis' bottom line is that people should not fear the end of times, but rather take heart in the fact that God loves everyone and that under that edict, no one should be left behind to suffer the end of days. Davis said Left Behind is a good read for anyone with healthy curiosity about the end times.

"It think this book is for anyone who is curious," he said. "It's a fun read and secondly, it's an informed read about what Christians say about the end times."

The book will be available for purchase at tonight's reading at the Waukee Public Library. It can also be purchased for the Kindle on Amazon.com.
