The Daily Dose: Early Out Today, Garage Sales and Blogging on Waukee Patch

In today's Daily Dose, we talk everything from childhood scrapes to garage sales and more wet weather ahead.

As a parent, I think you just have to accept that your children will get hurt at some point in their young lives and there is absolutely nothing you can do to prevent it (save for wrapping them in bubble wrap.)

That said, it still smarts a little the first time it happens when they're not in your care.

I figured this out the hard way this week when the school nurse called to tell me my 5 year-old had an unfortunate tangle with the sidewalk. She was playing tag, lost her footing and face planted on the concrete. Ouch. Her new look is decidedly Rocky Balboa-like. Just in time for pictures this weekend. Figures.

Speaking of kids and school, remember that today is early dismissal for all Waukee Schools. Elementary schools will dismiss today at 1:40 p.m. Secondary schools dismiss at 12:50 p.m.

Are you having a garage sale this weekend? Post it on Waukee Patch. We run a list of garage sales in the area every Thursday morning. If you have a sale you'd like to promote on Patch, e-mail me at jody.gifford@patch.com with your address, the date and times of your sale and a few of the items you're selling and we'll get it posted.

If you're not having a garage sale but have some things you'd like to get rid of, donate them to the Waukee Public Library's Teen Advisory Board. The teen group is having a garage sale on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Donations can be dropped off at the Library anytime through Friday. All proceeds from the sale go toward teen programming.
