Five Things in Waukee This Weekend: Jazz, Chili, Hard Rock, and a Fundraiser

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are a few things to keep you busy the weekend of Feb. 24-26.

Friday: The University of Iowa Latin Jazz Ensemble at ArtsCentral

On Friday, the University of Iowa Latin Jazz Ensemble will transport audiences to a warmer place playing music of the Caribbean and South America beginning at 7 p.m. at A.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and are available by calling (515) 402-7870, at or at the door the night of the performance (if seating is available).

Saturday: Chili cookoff and Olde Main beer sampling

Come out to Saturday beginning at 4 p.m. for the Chili Cookoff. Vote for your favorite chili and try a sampling of some Olde Main beers.

Chili cookoff winners will get a keg party & 100 wings, second place gets a $50 gift card and every contestant gets a free t-shirt.

Also Saturday, the band Deep Fat Fryer will perform beginning at 9 p.m. at Mickey's Irish Pub. There is no cover.

Saturday: The Reservoir Dogs at ArtsCentral

Waukee High School's own Reservoir Dogs will rock with a little old school rock by the likes of Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath and Queen, just to name a few. The show starts at 7 p.m.

Sunday: Truffles Treat Fundraiser for Desmund Adams

You're invited to a Truffles Treat fundraiser for Democratic candidate for the Iowa Senate District 22 Desmund Adams on Sunday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. in the community room at the West Des Moines Public Library at 4000 Mills Civic Pkwy, West Des Moines.

Adams will be joined by U.S. Congressman Leonard Boswell.

Suggested donations are as follows: Supporter - $50, Backer - $100, Booster - $250, Sponsor - $500 or Benefactor - $1,000.

Sunday: Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University at Point of Grace Church

Have you resolved to better manage your money in 2012? Register for Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University held at in Waukee.

Financial Peace University is a 13 week program that meets Sunday afternoons from 4-6 p.m. It began on Feb. 12. Cost is $100 per individual or couple. E-mail
