DART to extend D-Line Service to be extended to 11 p.m., July 3; No service July 4

DART’s D-Line service, which runs downtown will extend its regular hours to 11 p.m. on July 3  to serve those attending the Yankee Doodle Pops concert that evening. There will be no DART service on July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday, according to news releases from the Des Moines Regional Transit Authority.

The hours of the free-to-ride D-Line Downtown Shuttle will be extended to 11 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, to take people to the Des Moines Symphony’s Yankee Doodle Pops.

Concert goers can more easily find parking in the downtown area west of the Des Moines River, then ride the D-Line to the concert. The D-Line loops through downtown on Grand Avenue and Locust Street and picks up passengers at any of the designated stops along the route. The D-Line is free to ride and departs from stops approximately every 10 minutes. The shuttle will take them back to their stops afterward.

The D-Line’s route will be detoured all day due to bridge closures that day:

·         6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Throughout the business day, the shuttle will operate on Grand Avenue and Locust Street through most of downtown, then detour on Walnut Street over the Walnut Street Bridge to the East Village and around the Capitol Complex.

·         6 p.m. to 11 p.m. – During the evening, the shuttle will operate on the same detoured route throughout downtown and across the Des Moines River. However, beginning at 6 p.m., the shuttle will travel only as far as East 6th Street, which will be the main pick-up and drop-off point for concert-goers.

·         After 10 p.m. – After the fireworks, the shuttle will carry passengers westbound only, delivering them to their vehicles throughout downtown.

The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority will not operate bus service on Friday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. Service will resume Saturday, July 5.

DART’s administrative offices will be closed Friday as well, and reopen on Monday, July 7.
