But where IS “away” exactly? “Away” for the Greater Des Moines area is Metro Park East Landfill in eastern Polk County. We invite you to come along and see where your garbage ends up when you toss it in your wastebasket at work or put it curbside at home.  You’ll learn how Metro Waste Authority manages nearly 2,000 tons of trash each day and protects the environment at the same time.
