Friday
Iowa Sales Tax Holiday
Iowa's Sales Tax holiday begins today. No sales tax will be collected on select clothing and footwear Friday and Saturday.
Than means a savings of up to 6 percent in Waukee and nearby West Des Moines. The exemption only applies to clothing and shoes that cost less than $100 per item. And some odd rules apply. Shoes without cleats are exempt, shoes with cleats are taxable.
Any store that is open from 12 a.m., Aug. 3 to 12 a.m., Aug. 5 is required to participate.
Exploration in Painting
Teenagers 14-17 are invited to participate in an Exploration in Painting at Aloft Gallery today beginning at 2 p.m. Taught by Waukee artist Wendy Rounds, cost for the class is $25 and all materials are provided. Young artists are encouraged to wear a smock or old clothing.
Classes for children ages 7-10 are held on Mondays and ages 11-13 on Thursdays. For more information, contact Wendy Rounds at Aloft Gallery, (515) 720-4987.
Waukee Patch's First Birthday Party
Join us tonight at Mickey's Irish Pub to celebrate Patch's first year in Waukee. There will be food, soda, and cake in addition to a ribbon-cutting provided by the Waukee Area Chamber of Commerce.
The event starts at 5 p.m. with the ribbon-cutting at 5:30 p.m. The party ends at 9 p.m. Stop out and say "hi," or drop in and hang. Can't wait to see you all there!

Tanner Peard's Eagle Scout Fundraising Pancake Breakfast
Stop by the Maple Street Community Center on Saturday from 7-11 a.m. to help Tanner Peard raise money for a landscaping project and earn his Eagle Scout designation.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for children. They can be purchased at Waukee Hardware or at the door. All proceeds go back to paying for the cost of landscaping the project.
Jeremy Richards at Mickey's Irish Pub
Come out and listen to the sounds of the Jeremy Richards at Mickey's Irish Pub Saturday at 9 p.m. There is no cover charge to attend.
