Waukee Summer Forecast: Hot and Hotter With a Good Chance of Pool Weather

Dangle your feet somewhere cool because it's going to be sizzling. The temperatures will hit 90 degrees this weekend, time to hit some area pools.

Grab a beach towel, recyclable water bottles and a generous supply of sunscreen. Pool weather is definitely in the forecast.

Friday, the National Weather Service says it’ll be mostly sunny with a high near 88 – breezy, though, with a south-southwest wind between 8 and 16 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 22 miles per hour.

But that’s just the warm-up for a sultry, sunny Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, it'll be hot and windy, with highs around 90.

On Sunday, redundancy rules – along with the pool or beach.

Two aquatic centers in nearby West Des Moines are a perfect respite for the warm in Waukee.

Valley View Aquatic Center at 255 S. 81st St. has a 10-lane, 25-yard competitive pool with a diving board and drop slide, a large leisure pool with spray features, four water slides (including a speed slide) and a 600-foot lazy river.

The railroad-themed Holiday Park Aquatic Center, 1701 Railroad Ave., features three water slides, including a “swirl” slide; diving board; drop slide (four feet off the water); and an interactive spray zone that offers fun for all ages. Also available is a zero-depth pool and four lap lanes in the 3 to 4.5-foot deep swimming pool.

Rate information for both pools is available on the city of West Des Moines’ website.

Blue Heron Lake at Raccoon Park might also be calling. The beach area is open for swimming, or just paddle around or do some fishing.

Yes it is too bad though that our Waukee kids don't have a pool to go to in there own town. Other than the Y of course. Ironic isn't it???
