Waukee Public Library Names Festival of Trees Winners

The Festival of Trees benefit was held Dec. 1 at the Waukee Public Library. The event was the Library's annual holiday fundraiser.

On Dec. 1, the Waukee Public Library Foundation hosted its fifth annual Festival of Trees celebration and fundraiser at the

Waukee area businesses, organizations and residents purchased and decorated 17 wreaths and trees for the annual holiday fundraiser that generates money for the library to purchase new books and music.

"It’s a great way to support the library," said Waukee Public Library director Erik Surber. "In one sense it means a lot monetarily. In a larger sense, it's really fun to see how the community comes together - whether that's donating a tree or just enjoying the atmosphere - everyone is supportive of the library."

There was a silent auction, holiday treats, storytime for the kids and the chance to view the various trees and wreaths. Attendees could vote for their favorite for $1 a vote. Voting took place through Dec. 14.

The winners - those trees and wreaths with the most votes - are as follows:

Most popular wreath: Waukee Area Arts Council
Most popular small tree: Waukee Women's Club
Most popular large tree: First American Bank

Trophies may be collected at the circulation desk during library business
hours. The trees will be on display at the Waukee Public Library through Dec. 22. All proceeds from the Festival of Trees event will be used to purchase new books and music for the Waukee Public Library.
