Waukee and southwestern Polk County is under a severe thunderstorm warning until 4 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

Radar showed a thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 miles per hours near DeSoto. The storm is moving east at 30 mph.

Residents should move to an interior room and stay away from windows as a safety precaution. People who live in a mobile home should seek shelter in a reinforced buiding, the weather service says.
