If you're looking for a way to give mom a break from making breakfast tomorrow morning, then look no further than the Waukee Fire Association pancake breakfast.
The bi-annual event takes place Saturday morning from 7-11 a.m. at the Waukee Fire Station and will not only be a great place to get your pancake fill but also to have a little fun learning about the Waukee Fire Department.
Tomme Tysdal, president of the Waukee Fire Association and a firefighter with the Waukee Fire Department, said the fundraising event provides money for the fire department to purchase items like equipment and provide training for the firefighters.
"We raise money for things that go above and beyond the funds we get from the city budget," Tysdal said. "Every penny we bring in goes right back into the department."
Not only does the Waukee Fire Association raise money for the fire department, but this year they're working to help the Waukee Area Christian Food Pantry as well. Pancake breakfast attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item that can be donated to the food pantry. Tysdal said they're hoping to donate more than 500 pounds this year.
In addition to noshing on pancakes, sausage, juice, milk and coffee, Tysdal said there will be some fun activities for kids of all ages. An antique fire truck will be on hand for ride alongs and a host of other activities like station tours and demonstrations will shed a little light on what goes on at the station.
"We want to make this more of a family event where you can really come up to the station and spend some time seeing what we do here," Tysdal said. "We think it's going to be a lot of fun."
The Waukee Fire Association Pancake Breakfast and Food Drive will take place Saturday morning from 7-11 a.m. at the Waukee Fire Station, 1300 S.E. LA Grant Pkwy. Cost to attend is $5 for ages 5 and up. Children 4 and under are free.
