The Daily Dose: Bad Moms, a Council Controversy, and Great Weather
Today's Daily Dose includes a little bit of everything - broken bones, bad moms, a big council meeting and some other stuff, too.
If you're a regular at Waukee Patch then you might remember the call I received from the school nurse last week. My daughter, a kindergartner, had taken a spill on the sidewalk leaving her scraped up and bruised and looking a little like a prize fighter. It was the first call I'd ever received from the school nurse.
I should have knocked on wood.
On Friday, just four days after the sidewalk incident, I got a second call. My daughter had fallen from the monkey bars. She hurt her wrist and needed to be seen by a doctor.
Turns out it was fractured and she'll be wearing a cast for the next four weeks. Lesson learned. I will never brag about not hearing from the school nurse again.
I may not win any "mother-of-the-year" awards but one New Jersey mom has one upped us all by allegedly letting her 6 year-old daughter tan in a tanning bed. The mother, Patricia Krentcil, claims the little girl got a sunburn from being outside. Her daughter says mom let her go tanning. Who do you believe? Tell us what you think in today's Parents Talk.
Speaking of moms, wouldn't it be great if you could win $250 for yours? Check out our giveaway on Waukee Patch and you could win just for telling us why your mom is the greatest. Post a photo for a little extra edge and you could be entered to win.
Switching topics, will you be attending tonight's Waukee City Council meeting? One major topic on the agenda is Jeff Kooistra's future as the city administrator. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at Waukee City Hall.
FYI, it's Teacher Appreciation Week in Waukee. Today, the Waukee Chamber Ambassadors will deliver cookies and car washes to all teachers and administration in the Waukee school district. Don't forget to thank your favorite teachers and administrators some time this week.
Lastly, it's going to be a great day weather-wise in Waukee. According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly sunny with a high near 71. The rest is as follows:
