The Waukee school board has approved a bid for nearly $13 million to build a new elementary school, the seventh in the district.
Woodland Hills Elementary in West Des Moines, will sit at the corner of South 95th Street and Stagecoach Drive in the neighborhood formerly known as Michael's Landing.
A bid of $12,447,000, submitted by Oakview DCK LLC, was unanimously approved at the Waukee School Board's regular scheduled meeting Monday night.
Construction is scheduled to begin this spring on the project with the school expected to open its doors in time for the 2013-14 school year.
The plans for the elementary school's layout will appear familiar to some. It's the same plan, with some alterations, also found at Shuler Elementary, Waukee Middle School and Maple Grove Elementary. Oakview was also responsible for the design and execution of those schools, as well.
