The exterior walls are up, the weather is good and progress is being made on the construction of the new Woodland Hills Elementary school in West Des Moines' Woodland Hills development.

Dave Wilkerson, superintendent of the Waukee Community Schools, said that construction on the district's seventh elementary - its third in West Des Moines - is on schedule. It's expected to be completed just in time for the 2013-14 school year.

The new Woodland Hills Elementary sits at the corner of South 95th Street and Stagecoach Drive in the neighborhood formerly known as Michael's Landing and is expected to cost nearly $13 million.
